Rain couldn’t slow the spirit of Opening Day 2026 — families, neighbors, and longtime supporters showed up anyway to kick off the season together.
Thank you to everyone who helped us kick off the Opening Day of summer with the Team Walker community! Despite the rain’s best efforts, waves of local students, family members, neighborhood residents, and Walker supporters still showed out to celebrate the start of season with us.
The rain may have limited some of the day’s activities, but it couldn’t slow down the spirit of the event. Throughout the afternoon, families enjoyed food, music, games, mechanical bull rides, and plenty of opportunities to celebrate together.

On the grill, longtime referee and Team Walker supporter, Raeshay, shared stories from his more than 30 years of serving the community. He described how important it is to have a place like Team Walker in the neighborhood — a place filled with positive influences, resources, opportunities, and friendly faces who genuinely care about the well-being of the city.

For so many young people in the neighborhood, having access to an environment like this is life changing. And the environment wouldn’t exist without the presence of supporters and caring community members like Raeshay. We are grateful to all who play a role in our mission.
A special thank you as well to the Liberty All Stars for joining us and showing their support. The Liberty All Stars are a Jersey City youth organization dedicated to mentoring young people by providing a safe environment where they can build social skills, make healthy lifestyle choices, and grow through cheerleading, after-school programs, summer camps, and other community activities. Their mission of creating positive spaces where young people can thrive complements Team Walker’s own commitment to helping students discover opportunity, belonging, and support. We are grateful for our local partnerships like the Liberty All Stars.
